Rotor Blades – Lightweight Design and Optimized Manufacturing

Wind power is the fastest growing segment in the energy sector. In the offshore wind industry, lightweight structures for extreme offshore conditions and loads are needed urgently. Rotor blades represent up to a quarter of the investment in a wind turbine. IQPC’s International Conference on Advances in Wind Turbine Rotor Blades, 13 - 15 February 2012 in Bremen, is the first event to set industry benchmarks on blade design, materials and manufacturing processes.

The main topics of the conference include:
  • Economic challenges of rotor blade development
  • Structural design and aerodynamic performance (two OEM presentations)
  • Testing of blades, such as virtual testing and in-field validation methods
  • Improved and new materials for blades, such as natural fibre, glass fibre or carbon fibre

Additionally, participants are offered two interactive workshops on February 15, 2012. Discuss the structural blade design and CFD applications for blade design with experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems and the University of Stuttgart.

The conference will give participants the chance to identify the key challenges in blade manufacturing technologies and learn about advanced design concepts for increased energy yield. Experts from OEMs such as Siemens Wind Power, GE Wind Energy, Vestas Wind Systems and SGL Rotec GmbH will offer valuable first-hand information.
